Below, you will see my updates and the things I'm looking for help with so you can get a sense of how it's going. You can also subscribe to the recent changes as an RSS feed. And thank you so much. Really.
11.1.09 - New drafts of chapters 1 and 2 uploaded to wiki. Wiki revised with new frontpage and outline.
10.13.09 - Holy schmoley. Rough draft of everything... done. Here are the last two chapters: Chapter 6: Pitching, Managing, and Evaluating Participatory Projects and Conclusion: Imagining the Participatory Museum. I will continue to eagerly accept your comments, but will now be reorganizing the content and will do a preliminary edit on my own, offline. Expect an updated entire first draft, including your comments thusfar, by 10.31.09.
8.25.09 - The first draft of Chapter 4: Social Objects is complete and ready for review. There are in-line questions on both chapters 3 and 4 for which I would love your responses and thoughts.
8.10.09 - The first draft of Chapter 3: From Me to We is now complete. It is missing some activities, but the content is mostly all there. Next step: Chapter 4: Social Objects. My goal is to complete the first draft of this chapter by Aug 24.
7.28.09 - The entire chapter on personalization, Participation Begins with Me, is now complete in first draft. There are still a few bits missing. My plan for the next two months is to churn through first drafts of the three other major chapters (network effects, social objects, visitor contributions) and then start in on editing in October. So don't feel sad that I'm not responding to your questions and comments--I will get to them!
7.16.09 - The second section of Profiles at Work - Profiles at Work: Part 2 - is now ready for review with in-line questions. Part 3 coming next week.
7.8.09 - I've taken a brief detour to work on the pre-chapter 1 (shouldn't have numbered these so soon!) on the basics of Design and Participation. I'll be coming back to this page slowly over the course of the writing.
6.24.09 - The third part of Chapter 1, Profiles at Work, is now split into three pages (fractal book writing!), of which the first (Profiles at Work: Part 1) is ready for review with in-line questions.
6.10.09 - Chapter 1 is now split into three pages: Chapter 1: Participation Begins with Me, Museums and Personal Profiles, Profiles at Work. The first two are done and ready for your review. I will be inserting questions in-line into the first two today so you can answer them.
5.27.09 - More work on Chapter 1. I hope to have a completed draft for your review by the end of next week (but you can look and comment anytime).
5.4.09 - I have been traveling nonstop in March/April but intend to get back on writing starting on May 11.
3.7.09 - Revised Introduction significantly per a useful critical comment. Added new page called What is Participatory Design for the beginning of section 1 and would love your feedback.
3.3.09 - Added a page called Resources You Recommend for you to use to share projects, reports, and thoughts that you think should be considered.
2.23.09 - Added a page called Audience and Goals to address the specific questions raised in the outline discussion. Blogged about the question of how much of the WHY story to tell.
2.20.09 - Added the first draft of the Introduction. Definitely tweaked based on your comments on the outline. Will continue to work on outline and chapter 1. Look forward to your thoughts.
2.18.09 - Added a page called Participatory Reading and would love your thoughts on how to make the actual physical book participatory. This is a hard problem and I expect this page to evolve over many months.
2.17.09 - Feeling good about the outline and ready to share this with the world. World, please check out the Outline and share your comments. You may edit directly into the doc if you like.
2.4.09 - Right now I'm in the outline stage, while flirting with some freewriting.
